While we continue to provide printing services in Ottawa, we have since expanded to serve clients throughout Canada and beyond. We are proud to be a printing services provider to a wide range of clients across North America. As a qualified supplier to various government departments, we have implemented meticulous quality control measures. We use these same measures for all of our clients, from non-profit to public and private companies. One of our goals is to create innovative products and unique solutions for our customers. We use tools from Esko’s and EFI’s catalogue of programs to help streamline and expedite this process, as well as equipment from Heidelberg and Xerox to deliver a finished product.

Description:

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented lead press operator to manage press make-ready, operations and maintenance of printing presses as well as direct helpers/feeders. The chosen individual must be knowledgeable in all makeready, operations and makeready procedures as well as be capable to achieve and maintain desired print quality.

Daily Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct activities of the helpers/feeders
  • Install plates and blankets on press cylinders
  • Adjust press machine parts, such as a feeder, delivery mechanisms, guides, feed wheels, jogging device, tapes and cams
  • Set up, operate and trouble shoot the press maintaining consistent color and image quality
  • Wash blankets, clean ink, and ink fountains using ink solvent/cleaning mechanism on press
  • Make necessary color and register corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain quality specifications
  • Check printed product for correct color and consistency (too much or not enough water/ink summing, ink set off position of printed image, broken/ missing/ smudged image).
  • Review and analyze printing ink/paper/equipment relationships to identify printing problems and make adjustments and/or corrections in a timely manner
  • Operate equipment safely and produce desired product
  • Perform routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • High-School or Trade School
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience setting up and running sheet fed presses
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Ability to read, understand, and carry out written instructions
  • Must be able to read and write English and communicate by performing basic print and math calculations
  • Distinguish color, shades, tints and density variations to produce a quality product
  • Ability to follow instructions to operate equipment safely and produce desired product
  • Ability to perform routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
  • Standing 100% of the time
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, 35 lbs. frequently
  • Grasping with both hands for long periods of time
  • Continuous eye concentration
